ANTHONY SUMICH
@@@@@@@ (Everything I Will Never Know)
9 - 30 July 1999
"Imagine your thoughts, and half thoughts, having a physical presence. Cross this with a utalitarian architectural space."
That's how Auckland artist Anthony Sumich describes his massive installation, perversely titled @@@@@@@ (Everything I Will Never Know). Made of cut and facetted strand board, the mutated building is fragmented, chaotic and viral. It's a building in the process of reconfiguring itself, decomposing and recomposing itself, simultaneously logical and illogical - cancer by numbers. @@@@@@@ is, according to the artist, the latest in a series of installations that "imagine an intersection between architectural structures and the structures of the mind."
