Reading Room Sports

Reading Room: BYO Sports edition

Thursday 6 October 2011, 6pm

In 1953, at the age of 25, Yves Klein became a master of Judo, and ever since, contemporary art and sports have been inexorably, if somewhat uncomfortably, linked. Whether in the context of performance art, relational practices or video work, sport has provided useful source material for a number of significant contemporary artists.

Inspired by this legacy, for First Thursdays Artspace will turn over its gallery space to the sports-crazed public of Auckland. Join the Artspace team and some special guests for a night of fun and games, with everything from Pilates to ping-pong.

Games and classes will be offered throughout the night for all levels of fitness, and half-time refreshments will be provided. In addition, you are invited to bring in your own equipment for some impromptu sports in the gallery (no ball sports, for obvious reasons).

Artspace's gallery and reading room will be open until 8pm, with a hand-picked selection of books on display for the night and staff on hand to give you the rundown of our range of publications and periodicals.
